Florida training begins 2/1/26

In 2002 I invited my coaching mentor to review and critique a match my team had played. At that time our program was excellent but I felt I had gradually become less critical and was too comfortable. I was inadvertently too satisfied with our successes and felt like I was ignoring other possibilities. This was the exact moment I asked my friend and mentor to take a look. During his review he proceeded to find about 3 areas that we could improve or clean up. I had completely overlooked these things as they weren't real problems at that time. We were winning and problems weren't obvious, rather they were hidden. We were heading to the NCAA tournament and were going to face teams that exploit everything you hadn't prepared for. These issues were ticking time bombs to our performances. I took his advice back into the gym and once we worked out those corrections we rose to a brand new level. This story is important because it equally applies to individual player performance as well.
All too often I hear players either overvalue their game, or undervalue it. Their own families can help perpetuate this without knowing it. We all want to help our kid. But once a player becomes somewhat proficient with their skills their parents suddenly don't know how to help. This relates to me helping my kids with their math. I learned that I'm darn good at math up to the junior high level. Once they got into more advanced math classes I was lost and completely unable to help. Other options were pursued! In volleyball, 4U is that other option.
Upon receipt of video, 4U will break down the important parts prior to our call. The video call will last approximately 1 hour, depending upon your needs. The client's skills and abilities will be compared to my own video of elite players of the same position. Imitation is a very fast way of learning and we often do it naturally. Immersion in video speeds up this process. We become more experienced without even touching a ball.
Athletes and Coaches of any age or ability benefit MASSIVELY from the proper use of video. Most of us have become highly visual learners. Parents are another market for this as improving their knowledge can help avoid frustrations and mistakes while on the volleyball pathway. A more knowledgeable volleyball family is a happier and less-stressed family.
Athletes of any age or ability benefit MASSIVELY from the proper use of video. Most of us have become highly visual learners. Reviewing match video, or even practice video, with a qualified expert can help a player improve at a much faster rate. Once players immerse in video, even on a basic level, their eyes begin working better with their mind and body. While they play or train it begins feeling more comfortable because their mind is producing these little images that they absorbed in video. When done well, it's magical.
Coaches receive similar benefits, as learning to view video properly and efficiently can speed up a coaches ability to process the game quicker. Learning to view video properly teaches your eyes what to observe, not only in during video sessions but in live volleyball. Video can teach coaches to stop watching 'tennis' and spraining their neck just following the ball. The trick is to watch the ball less and your players more. Video teaches this. Additionally, coaches benefit from being 'critiqued' during the MVA or practice analysis. This can be a little hard on the ego but is something all high level coaches invite. You'll know if you have a heart of a coach if you love the criticism and want to grow. Constructive criticism from someone who cares and is qualified is a game-changer for any coach!
